The Bannerman

The bannerman was standing
   on the corner yesterday
With his peace and love medallion
   his feet of clay
And his flag of freedom waving
like a flower in the breeze
And his fist raised in rebellion
   in the name of liberty

O my friend
what you feel within
Is worth more than what goes on outside
Can’t you see,
you will not be free
Locked into these ghettos of the mind

The bannerman went marching down the road to Shangrila
With his “Praise the Revolution” & his “Down with the Bourgeois”
And his khaki manifesto as he mans the barricades
When he fires his gun he becomes the same as those he hates

The bannerman sits writing in the palace of the king
Laws and prohibitions of his ideology
And no one dares oppose him for all men he has saved
In the name of truth and liberty he’s turned them into slaves

“The moment that Hamlet acts - he becomes Macbeth”
